MTB & TR CHALLENGE 2018

RACE DETAILS

Founded in 2014 the SPUR Kenridge MTB & TR Challenge is back again this October and will take place on Saturday the 20th October and again at the picturesque D’Aria Wine Estate in Durbanville.

We are very excited to present this challenge again with SPUR and we welcome each and everyone to join us for a day filled with fun, some mountain bike racing and of course a bit of trail running.

The Mountain Bike categories are open to Primary School Children only and the Trail Run is open to ALL AGE GROUPS.

This year we have prizes in excess of R100 000 including 6 Mountain Bikes, and a Siemens Washing Machine. We thank our generous sponsors for their amazing generosity and support. We also offer fantastic goodie bags for early entrants.

RACE CATEGORIES

SPUR Kenridge MTB challenge – this event is open to Primary School children only.

Depending on the age of the child they will then participate according to their age category:

  • Sub Nippers (6 – 8 years) : Laps – Girls 1 lap / Boys 2 laps
  • Nippers (9 – 10 years) : Laps – Girls 2 laps / Boys 3 laps
  • Sprogs (11 – 12 years) : Laps – Girls 3 laps / Boys 4 laps
  • Sub-Juniors (13 years) : Laps – Girls 4 laps / Boys 5 laps

The SPUR Kenridge Trail Run challenge – this event is open to everyone i.e. children and adults of all ages

  • Short route – 1 lap (2.5km)
  • Long route – 5 km

The route is approximately 2.5 km in length.

The trail run will use the exact same course as the MTB challenge.

No, this is a fun event.

The SPUR Kenridge MTB challenge – this event is open to Primary School children only. Depending on the age of the child they will then participate according to their age category. See Race Categories section above for more details.

The SPUR Kenridge Trail Run challenge – this event will consist of a short route (2.5 km) and a longer route (5 km) which is aimed at the older children and adults. Please note that the trail run is an open event and therefore children and adults of all ages can participate in it.

The SPUR Kenridge MTB challenge is based on a cross country format where a participant is required to complete a pre-determined amount of laps. It is only once the winner has completed the event that the race comes to an end and all participants complete the lap that they are busy with. All participant will receive their medal, free burger and milkshake once they cross the finishing line.

  • Food and beverage vendors will be in the race village catering for everyone’s needs.
  • Sioux Spur (from the Glengarry Shopping Mall) will be selling Spur Burgers
  • Coffee Colony will be selling freshly brewed coffee as well as water and cold drinks

MTB challenge

  • No helmet no ride
  • All MTB riders to wear a pair of closed shoes i.e. tekkies, running shoes or cycling shoes

Trail run challenge

  • All trail runners to wear a pair of tekkies, running shoes or trail running shoes

Indemnity and disclaimer: All riders / runners agree to and hereby bind themselves to the following indemnity:

  1. The rider / runner undertakes and agrees to ride / run the event and use the area entirely at his or her own risk.
  2. The rider / runner hereby waives and shall have no claim whatsoever and howsoever arising against Kenridge Primary School, D’Aria Wine Estate, Geco Cycles, any other land owners, any individual organiser or contractor, official, assistant, helper, representative or agent, the sponsors, any local authority or their employees, hereinafter referred to as the parties, in respect of any injury, loss or damage of any nature that the entrant may suffer arising from any injury to the person or property of the entrant, caused directly or indirectly by the negligence, albeit gross, of one or more of the afore-mentioned parties.
  3. The rider / runner undertakes not to hold any of the parties liable if he or she or any dependent or his or her estate suffers loss or damage which was caused directly or indirectly from participation on the properties, including, but without limiting the generality of the afore-going, any loss or damage due to physical injury or death or the physical injury or death of another person, or due to patrimonial loss or damage, and in which ever manner the damage or loss was caused, including the negligence of the parties.
  4. The rider / runner indemnifies the parties against all liability for above mentioned losses or damages and confirms that this acceptance of risk, undertaking and indemnity is also binding on his or her estate.
  5. The entrant confirms that this indemnity extends to the participation of any event, including his or her arrival at the property and departure there from and attendance at any ceremony or function thereof.
  6. The rider / runner accepts that, without limiting the generality of the afore-going, the parties and the owners or managers of the venue shall accept no responsibility or liability for any injury, howsoever caused, to any person while on the premises or while utilizing the facilities thereon, as well as in respect of any patrimonial loss or damage, how so ever caused, suffered by any person while on the premises or while utilizing the facilities there on.
  7. Should the rider / runner be a minor, the parent, guardian or adult supervisor of the minor confirms that the minor is riding / running the trails on the farms at his or her own risk and indemnifies the parties against any claims by such minor.
  8. The rider / runner or, in the case of a minor, the parent or guardian, confirms that her or she has read and understands the effect of this indemnity.
  9. All or any of the parties may accept the benefits which accrue to them in terms of this indemnity at any time after it has been signed by the participant.
  10. I agree to abide by the rules as stipulated by the landowners and the organisers, including the waiver. The wearing of helmets is compulsory. I hereby accept the Conditions of Entry, Race Rules and the Indemnity.
